Voting for the post of Vice President is over at 5 pm today, the country is going to get its new Vice President. The results for the post of Vice President will also be declared today itself.
The candidate for the post of Vice President is Jagdeep Dhankhar, the NDA candidate who has been the Governor of West Bengal, Margaret Alva has been made the candidate from the opposition.
Many ministers, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have voted in the election for the post of Vice-President being held in Parliament House. Politics is also intensified regarding the Vice Presidential election, BSP has supported Jagdeep Dhankhar and AAP has supported Margaret Alva and former Prime Minister of Congress Manmohan Singh voted, while TMC has kept the voting distance for the post of Vice President and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has given Alva more JDU, YSR Congress, BSP, AIADMK and Shiv Sena have supported Dhankhar.
The Vice Presidential election will be held as per the system of proportional representation by means of single transferable vote and now the counting of votes will begin at 6 pm.
Talking in terms of statistics, the total number of votes of MPs in the election of the Vice President is 788, out of which more than half the votes are won. In this process, a minimum of 394 votes are required to win the election and more than half the mark has to be crossed. It is being estimated that with the support of other parties, the total figure of NDA can be close to 510, while the figure of opposition can be reduced to around 200.
