Atiq Ahmed Murder: The murder of Atiq Ahmed, which took place in front of television cameras and in the presence of police officers, has sent shockwaves through the community. As a result, the administration is taking urgent measures to tighten security, including the temporary shutdown of internet services in some areas. Additionally, the Chief Minister is holding high-level meetings to address the situation.

Here’s Your 10-point guide to this big story: Atiq Ahmed Shot Dead news

  1. The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh is currently convening a large meeting via video conferencing with all District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police in Lucknow, aimed at discussing the recent murder of a former gangster-turned-politician in Prayagraj and assessing the situation. It is worth noting that, contrary to previous reports, no action has been taken against the police officers involved in the incident. However, internet services have been temporarily halted in some areas of Prayagraj, the location where the murder occurred, as a preventative measure.
  2. According to sources, the state government has prepared and submitted a report to the Home Ministry following yesterday’s incident, which involved a high-level meeting between Sanjay Prasad, the Additional Chief Secretary (Home), the Chief Minister, and other senior officials of the Uttar Pradesh Police.
  3. All three of the accused, namely Lovelesh Tewari, Sunny Singh, and Arun Maurya, have a history of criminal activity, and their families have reportedly disassociated themselves from them.
  4. Lovelesh Tewari, one of the accused, has a criminal history and has been previously incarcerated. According to his father, the family has no connection to him and is unaware of his actions. In a statement to the media, Yagya Tiwari said, “He is my son. We saw the incident on TV. We are not aware of the actions of Lovelesh nor do we have anything to do with this. He never lived here, and neither was he involved in our family affairs. He did not tell us anything. He came here five to six days ago. We have not been on talking terms with him for years. There is already a case registered against him. He was jailed in that case.”
  5. Yagya Tiwari also stated that Lovelesh Tewari does not work and has a history of drug addiction. “We have four children. We have nothing to say about this,” he added. During the incident, Lovelesh was shot in the leg during crossfire with his co-accused and is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Prayagraj.
  6. Sunny Singh, another accused in the incident, has a staggering 14 cases registered against him and has been on the run since being declared a history-sheeter. According to sources, his father has passed away, and he left home after selling his share of the ancestral property. Sunny hasn’t returned to visit his mother and brother in over five years now. In the meantime, his brother is running a tea stall.
  7. Pintu Singh, the brother of the accused Sunny Singh, stated that they lived separately and that he did not know how Sunny became a criminal. “He used to wander around and did no work. We have no idea about the incident,” he said.
  8. According to sources, the third accused, Arun Maurya, had left home when he was a child. His name had previously surfaced in connection with the murder of a policeman on a train in 2010. Before the incident, he worked at a factory in Delhi. Currently, the three accused were staying at a lodge in Prayagraj.
  9. During the questioning by the police, the accused revealed that they aspired to become notorious criminals, which was the motive behind the murder of Atiq Ahmed. However, the police found inconsistencies in their statements and plan to conduct further investigation. “We wanted to kill Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf with the aim of completely wiping off the Atiq-Ashraf gang and making a name for ourselves,” the FIR stated, quoting the arrested assailants’ confession to the police.
  10. According to the FIR, the accused confessed that as soon as they received information about Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf being taken into police custody, they decided to pose as local journalists and blend in with the crowd to kill them. The accused carried three fake media identity cards, a camera, and a microphone to carry out their plan.

Based on the information provided, it appears that the murder of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed was carried out by three men with criminal records who wanted to make a name for themselves as notorious criminals. They posed as journalists to gain access to Ahmed and his brother who were in police custody at the time, and subsequently killed Ahmed in front of TV cameras. The incident has caused the Uttar Pradesh government to tighten security measures, including suspending internet services in some areas. The accused have been arrested and are being interrogated by the police.
